Lazy Sunday
Monday, January 5, 2009
For the first time since I reached America, I slept-in. Sunday is really a lazy day for Americans. Malls open at 12 and close at 6. The Tech Trolley (shuttle bus) only starts operating at 3pm. Oh and here's the hilarious pictures of us and the trolley that I promised the other night.
Anyway I purchased my first "expensive" personal item today - a GATech Hoodie for 42USD. I figured it was a worth-it buy since I definitely would want to bring back some GATech souvenirs to Singapore, and hoodies are actually immensely practical in this climate.
I love the bee mascot of GATech. I think it's awesome.
I got the hoodie at Barnes & Nobles, GATech's bookstore. The bookstore beats the silly "Popular" we have in NTU hands down. B&N has 2 levels, a cafe in it, sells more than just textbooks (think mini-Borders), and offers reselling and buyback of used textbooks! Besides that, it has a heckload of GATech clothes and paraphernalia, such as caps, mugs, soft toys, cufflinks, earrings, and even vehicle license plates!
I wonder if Singapore universities can ever build up such strong college/varsity spirit. Did you know that some of the GATech hoodies, sweaters, and polo tees that are made by labels such as TH and RL? Talk about marketing! I'll definitely procure a GATech TH/RL polo or tee when summer comes around!
This is the picture of the biggest pizza I've eaten in my life so far, and maybe not the biggest yet. America never ceases to amaze me with their super-sized food. This is a 21inch pizza that 5 of us barely could finish.
The slice of pizza is bigger than my hand! And it comes with a complimentary free drink (choice of coke, sprite, lemonade). And watch the size of that cup. It's as big as my 750ml Nalgene bottle!
And the price? A mere 5USD per person! And the taste of the pizza is just divine. Americans definitely are NOT stingy with their sauces, cheese, and meat. Now I empathize with American exchange students in Singapore. They definitely must feel cheated and perhaps even traumatized when ordering Canadian Pizza here. Then again, my friends were traumatized when they had Asian cuisine a few days back at the foodcourt. Still, I cannot possibly imagine the sheer horror of eating Singaporean pizzas any longer, after feasting on the American delicacies.
While we struggled to finish the supersized pizza, the table of 3 (2 guys 1 girl) beside us ordered 1 21inch pizza, 1 18inch pizza, and 2 salads. And they finished it! The amounts of food Americans eat is truly intimidating. No wonder they grow to such huge sizes and trump us Asians in sheer physical strength in general.
Anyway school begins tomorrow. It feels almost surreal. I'm camping OSCAR now for subjects and I'm proud to announce that I managed to grab a slot in "Principles of Management" that just free-ed up! Whee!
I guess there's no running from STAR-wars even in America. And definitely, there's no running away from school too. As much as I would like to believe that this is a long holiday (by the way, I'm probably going to go skiing next week, planning-in-progress!), my timetable says that I have a Philosophy class at 0905.
Sigh...gonna make a sandwich and pack it into my bag for lunch. Yes, home-made sandwich lunches are common here. I can't eat pizza and grease for every meal. Even if my wallet doesn't suffer, my health will.
