Of love and friendship...
Sunday, June 27, 2010
So you have a really good friend that you used to hang out with all the time. Spend hours at dinner and coffee, drive around to crazy places at night to chat and chill, and basically confide in one another...and then...that friend gets attached...
Voila! Now you find it difficult to get you friend out. Your friend is perpetually tired or drained when alone, and if not, he either has work, family or other friends to slot into a busy schedule. And the last time you actually met was when it became a weird, compromised "one-and-a-half date".
What's that you ask? Oh that's when it's a supposed double date except that you don't have a +1 to bring along while your good friend hauls the significant other over...
So hands up people, those of you who have experienced this. I think I see some hands...
Now I've always told myself I would never be one of those guys who would abandon my pals for my gal...because gals come and go, while friends are forever....but then, why do some guys put their gal over their pals?
I look towards myself and think. Why would I abandon friends...and my personal take on it, based on personal experience is...convenience.
I myself have been in a fair bit of relationships to ask this question introspectively. When is it that I end up spending more time with my other half and regrettably, ignore my friends?
It's when there's a place to go after the dinner and movie, a car to ride around, a room and bed to lie in and hold your loved ones in the arms...at any hour and anytime...
Face it, but who doesn't like to indulge in the warm embrace of a loved one? If you could stay in the arms of a loved one for an entire day, wouldn't you? If I had the right person, the right time, and the right place...why not?
When it becomes too convenient for couples to meet and stick, something else gives.
And in this case its friends.
And no, I don't think my good friend is any less of a good friend...and neither do I think there's anything wrong.
He's just in love, and blessed with convenience.
And I, am a hypocrite, for actually trying to believe that I would put my friends first before my love, when the truth is that I probably wouldn't, if given the chance to...
On a side note, Germany just raped England in FIFA WC2010. Blitzkrieg.
